A prestigious anniversary will be celebrated in 2026
We invite choirs and vocal ensembles from Lithuania and abroad to participate in one of the most important choral music events in Lithuania!
From May 21 to 24, 2026, an exceptional choral music event will take place in Klaipėda – the 24th International Stasys Šimkus Choir Competition. The upcoming edition is special – it will mark 50 years since the beginning of this international competition. First held in 1976, the competition has become a longstanding tradition in choral culture, significant both for Lithuania and the international music community.
This competition is the only international choir competition of its kind and rank in Lithuania, known for its prestige and for attracting high-level professional and artistic ensembles from Lithuania and abroad. Every two years, Klaipėda becomes the capital of choral music, welcoming ensembles from all over the world. The jury features distinguished choir conductors from Lithuania and other countries.
The Stasys Šimkus Choir Competition is more than just a choral contest. During the event, a wide array of cultural activities will take place: concerts in the city’s halls and churches, meetings, Round Table discussions for conductors, educational events, and performances by Klaipėda’s local choral groups.
This rich program offers a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the contemporary European choral music scene, and for choirs – to establish new artistic connections.
The competition has been organized for many years by the Klaipėda Choral Association "Aukuras".
Applications to participate in the competition are open until January 15, 2026.
