THE SEVENTH 

Stasys Šimkus choir competition took place on the 25th – 26th of April, 1987. It was dedicated to the anniversary of the composer’s 100th birthday. Twenty seven choirs from Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Marijampolė and Alytus took part in this competition. The laureates of the first group were the mixed choir of the Klaipėda Teachers’ House “Gilija” (leader Remigijus Songaila), the female choir of the Vilnius Construction Company “Eglė” (leader Jonas Kavaliauskas), the male choir “Vilma” from Vilnius (leader Tadas Šumskas), and the mixed choir of the Vilnius House of Teacher (leader Laurynas Vakaris Lopas).

A special prize for the best performance of a S. Šimkus’ song was awarded to the mixed choir of Vilnius J. Tallat-Kelpša Higher Music School (leader Juozas Talžūnas). And in the contemporary composer’s song competition, the prize was awarded to the mixed choir of Vilnius Teachers’ House (leader Laurynas Vakaris Lopas).

In the second, third and fourth groups, the winners of the first places were the mixed choir of Marijampolė State Institutions‘ Workers (leader Juozas Jonikas), the female choir of Klaipėda Trade Board (leader Vydmants Ruzgys), the male choir of Klaipėda House Building Centre (leader Vytautas Pečiulis and Alfonas Vildžiūnas), the mixed choir of Vilnius Secondary School No. 20 (leader Jonas Kizelis). The first places were also won by the mixed choirs of Klaipėda S. Šimkus‘ and Vilnius J. Tallat-Kelpša Higher Music Schools (leader Audronė Purlienė and Juozas Talžūnas).
