THE FOURTH

During THE FOURTH Stasys Šimkus competition which took place on the 12^th – 13^th of May, 1979, 15 choirs form Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys and Marijampolė took part. They competed in two categories. In the first category, the name of laureate was granted to the female choir of the Vilnius Trade Institute (leader D. Kundrotienė), the male choir of Television Factory of Šiauliai (leader R. Andriuškevičius), and the mixed choir of the Teachers’ House of Klaipėda (leader Gediminas Purlys). The prize (founded by S. Šimkus‘ Higher Music School) for the best performance of S. Šimkus’ song “Atsisveikinimas su giria” was granted to the mixed choir of Kapsukas Food machinery Factory (leader R. Pavilionis). The prize for the best performance of a song from repertoire of Republican Song festival of 1980 was received by the mixed choir of the Klaipėda Teachers’ House (S. Prosnak “The sea”, leader Gediminas Purlys).

In the second category, among the female choirs, the laureate was the female folk choir “Aidas” of the ministry of Light Industry of Lithuania (leader Juozas Vanagas). And, among the mixed choirs, the laureate was the mixed choir of Kaunas Radio Factory “Banga” (leader Zita Abromaitytė).

The prize for the best performance of a S. Šimkus’ song was granted to the female choir “Aidas” (“Ūžia girelė” harm. by S. Šimkus).

The prize for the best performance of a song from the repertoire of the Republican Song festival of 1980 was received by the female choir of Panevėžys Trade Department “Volungė” (leader G. Viržonienė, “Ant ežerėlio rymojau” harm. by V. Paltanavičius).

The children’s, female and mixed choirs of Klaipėda S. Šimkus‘ Higher Music School (leader Nelė Griecienė, N. Domarkienė, Remigijus Songaila) and the mixed choir of Klaipėda Pedagogical faculty of State Conservatoire (leader Vytautas Pučinskas) gave a concert to the participants and guests of the fourth competition.
